The Lanka Powerboat Association (LPA) was founded in October 2011 and was the 57th nation to join the UIM. As a result, Sri Lanka is eligible to host UIM events to showcase the sport and the country to a national and a worldwide audience.

The Island of Sri Lanka surrounded by water and with beautiful inland stretches of water, is ideally situated to host powerboat racing. Lanka Powerboat Association believes the time is now right for Sri Lanka to take part and excel in this unique sport.

Since its formation, LPA has hosted many successful national and international events including Thundercat/P750, Formula 1 and 2. Licensing, training and children's training programs have been initiated with Sri Lanka being the first country to train Ambassadors under the UIM Propstar program this gave Sri Lanka international recognition as a junior and adult training centre of excellence.

Power boating is a fast, furious and glamorous international sport with a global following. The governing body, the UIM has a series of large events all over the world. The island of Sri Lanka is an ideal new location for the sport and Lanka Powerboat Association has been set up to promote and develop powerboat racing in the country. Lanka Powerboat Association is developing a series of events to cement Sri Lanka on the powerboating map on the sport’s global circuit.
